I bought this jacket for my husband for a recent trip to Costa Rica. We visited a cloud forest in the mountains when we were there, and the jacket worked nicely for the wind and the light rain. However, after a number of hours and a sustained downpour of rain, the jacket finally relented and his shoulders and back got wet. But even then they were wet and not really soaked.

I don't think it is reasonable to expect a jacket like this to stand up to those conditions and not let some rain through. He was very pleased with the jacket's performance and so was I. It is a good light jacket that will protect its wearer from the wind and a fair amount of rain, but it isn't perfectly waterproof.

Very good jacket for the price and perfect for global travel which is my primary usage. Only thing to consider is sewing down the end of the elastic pull waist cord before it comes loose inside the jacket. This is a common issue with many products of this configuration. If during the manufacturing they would secure better or loop inside than this problem would not occur.

Columbia makes really nice jackets that have a sporty look, but can still be used in a casual way. I love the design and the color. Retail price for these jackets make them tough for me to purchase, but Amazon makes it more affordable while still receiving the order quickly. I will be on the lookout for more styles. I avoid the very expensive ones that are made for skiing. The velcro on the wrists is awesome. Columbia makes good products.
