Summary: Great Jacket 2008-12-31
Comment: I've worn Marmot outerwear for years, and I've always been happy with them. I like the quality materials, smart, unfussy design and the performance. The North Face is a great company and I'd never knock their stuff, but I don't want to have the same look as some high school kid who's never been on the north face of anything except the mall.
The Rubicon jacket is an example: well-made, fits great (cut a little large for layering)and it's Gore-Tex Extreme Wet Weather rated.
I like the smart design features: zip-away hood and snow-skirt ('cause you don't need a snow-skirt unless you're in snow)and a nice little pocket near the left cuff (for lip balm, sunscreen, etc). Pockets are placed so I can use them when wearing a pack.
I got it to use it in heavy rain and for skiing. So far, perfect! My only nitpick is that the pockets are lined with microfiber, which is easy on the hands, but I'd prefer the old mesh so I can vent the jacket without using the PitZips.
