Hyperbole aside, this is an excellent active shell with an athletic cut. The fit is simply perfect. I've never had a jacket of this size fit this well. I'm 5'10" and 160 lbs and this thing fits my frame without being baggy in any way while also never feels tight. I'm not Super Man or anything, but this is the first jacket I have bought that molds to my shoulders and at the same time doesn't feel like it will split in half if I have to move them. There's room for a base layer and even a mid layer if necessary. If you're really layering for the ice, you can probably cinch a Zeus down jacket under this. I've had the Gargoyle color one for a year now and I'm pleased with the purchase. I've become a bit of a Marmot loyalist with jackets simply based off the Super Hero - their sizing is just dead on for me. Because of the trim cut, I'd try it on before you buy.

I can only compare this to the North Face Apex, which I loved. This jacket is like an amped up version of that. It is essentially the same thing but with more bells and whistles: bigger collar, hood, more pockets, panels with more rugged material. Many people have commented on the big collar, but I love it. I took this jacket skiing in Wisconsin in about 10-15 degree weather. I had a Patagonia Cap 3 under it, and I was fine. Not cold, not hot. I have been a bit cold in colder weather (-5 to 5 F). I will say this jacket is so nice that it kind of stands out in social settings, almost too much.

I'm 6'5" and 240 lbs. and the large fits fine. Arms are plenty long, and there's room for insulating layers underneath.

The Marmot Superhero soft shell is a beautiful jacket. The material is durable and wont snag or tear and is just stretchy enough to allow for complete range of movement. Every point where air could get in has well designed cinches, including the hood which has a pull around the head to make it fit like a hat. But even with everything clamped down, the jacket remains cool. The main pockets are deep and it has two vertical chest pockets, one on the inside of the jacket. The hood zips off but doesn't stash in the collar.
