Product Review

Before Marmot became the outdoor power-haus it is today, it was once a small company that simply made goose down jackets and vests. It seems wise then to put your faith in the Marmot Zeus down jacket. The 800 Fill goose down is encased with down-proof rip-stop polyester and a draw-cord hem to ensure both heat and down stay put. Ultra light down proof fabric 801 Fill Goose down Packs into pocket Angel-wing movement Elastic draw cord hem

5.0 out of 5 stars Marmot Zeus Jacket, May 29, 2009

I purchased this jacket for travel rather than hiking/camping, so read on with that caveat. My general size is a medium with a 32" sleeve; that size also fits fine with the Zeus, with enough room for a light layer underneath if needed. While it lofts very well, it doesn't make you look like a puffy Michelin Man. Although it isn't matte, it isn't terribly shiny, at least in the Twilight blue color. It has two outside zipped pockets and two deep unzipped storage pockets inside. The collar is a little high, but I don't find it to be a problem. I travel to Europe several times a year and on the night leg of the flight usually freeze from the overhead vents that always seem to be on full blast near me. I chill easily, so this jacket is a handy companion with variable cool weather as well. It weighs virtually nothing and can be compressed to a small, light size that's easy on the carry on space, and in a pinch can be used as a pillow. Marmot states that it can be compressed into its own...Read more

I have had this coat a few days now and I cannot say enough good things about it. I'm used to a winter coat weighing a ton in order to keep me warm in sub-freezing temperatures. I am a bigger guy (6'1" and 230lbs) and the XL is plenty big for me. The articulation in the arms is more than enough to keep the sleeves from moving up my arms almost regardless of how I move. The coat is plenty long to cover my entire torso and then some except when I reach up all the way over my head. Because of my height, the coat does come up a little on my torso when I reach straight up but for normal movements it is excellent.

It has been single digit lows at night and 20-30 degrees during the day here since I got this coat and I have not been cold at all when wearing this. I usually run pretty warm but I have not been overheated at all when wearing this coat. Even when going from outside to walking around heated stores, unzipping the coat has been enough to keep me from overheating...Read more

I have a 38" chest, 5'-11" @140 lbs. and bought a medium expecting to wear a pile coat underneath in below zero F weather. Even though I can fit a 300 wt pile jacket underneath comfortably, this still fits fine with just a thin base layer only.
I have used this with only a thin polyester turtleneck in breezy 20 F conditions for extended periods and stayed very comfortable.
The arms, for me, do allow over the head reaching without the hem riding up, and the bottom hem falls just below the hip bones. I have a 15" neck and the collar fits me just about perfect (though a bit snug with that 300 wt. pile zipped completly up). The wrists on this coat are elastic with no adjustment and are adequete. Elastic hem with pocket adjustment cords. Two outside zip pockets and two non-zip interior pockets that'll hold a small water bottle or food if you need to. The main zipper is not very big or heavy but seems to be OK. All other aspects regarding quality are top notch. It packs down...Read more
