I spend a lot of time in the rain, and am always looking for sturdy, comfortable, well-made raingear. I was always a die-hard North Face fan, but when my beloved NF finally died I found their newer designs a disappointment. I read extensively through online postings, and found a lot of references to this jacket. I hemmed and hawed but finally, and largely due to the low price, took the plunge.

I had been looking for a parka to replace an old North Face Mountain Light and it seems that outdoor fashions have changed... I wanted a heavy duty shell that I could wear over multiple layers if necessary. I wanted it to have sturdy fabric that would hold up to pack and camera bag straps which I usually carry when I am out. I also wanted a boxy parka that was long enough to cover my hips. Many of the newer styles had issues of wearing out on the shoulders when users carried packs. Also it seems that the trend is towards soft shells. I have one of those but wanted something that I could put a camera under if it starts raining or snowing. The shells aren't usually boxy enough and most of them were too short. I am a medium build woman of 5'7". Most of the women's parkas were too fitted and didn't allow for the layering and/or the fabrics were too lightweight. I bought a new Mountain Light and returned it because the fabric was too flimsy. I also looked at local stores and couldn't find...Read more
