Terrific jacket for running (and this is the newer model),
November 24, 2010 This review is from: Mountain Hardwear WindStopper Tech Soft Shell Jacket - Men's (Misc.)
Mountain Hardwear makes high quality products for the outdoors, and this jacket is one of them.
I am a serious runner (1200 miles a year) and run outdoors all year long. Where I live in the Northeast, it can get very cold and windy during the winter, with real feel temperatures down to zero even when the sun is out. With proper layering, this jacket keeps me nice and warm when I run, and definitely lives up to its name as a wind stopper.
This jacket is the newer model, which I recently bought on sale at REI. Elsewhere on Amazon for less money you can buy the older model, which I also own and in which I have run for the past four winters. In terms of performance and overall style, both jackets are similar. Each has a cinch cord at the bottom (which comes in very handy when it is windy or else freezing cold and I want to "seal in" as much body heat as possible), three large and easy to zip pockets on the front, a nice front zipper, and pit zips that work great to...Read more

Impermeable to cold winds, tailored fit, lightweight, and pit zips for temp control,

This is the best windproof fleece jacket on the market, albeit the most expensive as well. The fit is great, you hardly know you have it on. Most windproof jackets with Gore Windstopper laminate are somewhat bulky and inflexible, sort of stiff. Not this one. It's soft, light and flexible, and completely windproof. I also have a Marmot Afterburner that I love, and it has fleece both inside and out on both sides of the Gore Windstopper layer, but it can get a little warm as soon as the wind dies down a bit. Not the Mountain Hardwear jacket though. The pit zips keep your core temp adjusted however you like, and I like to shed some sweat that way rather than having to remove layers.
The Marmot jacket is probably better for very cold conditions, as it's heavier and somewhat warmer. Otherwise this Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Tech jacket is great for all other conditions, and it's made for layering so as it gets colder you can adjust with polypropylene layers. If you want the...Read more

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mountain Hardwear WindStopper Tech Soft Shell Jacket - Men's (Misc.)
I have owned this jacket for 10 years now, bought it before it was trendy and it still serves me well. I decided to purchase a new one (Black/Grill) and am now handing down my original jacket to my 15 year old son. It works for just about everything; mountain biking, hiking and wearing around town. I expect to hand my new jacket down to my youngest son when he is old enough to fit it in about 8 years. :)
Update: received my new jacket today, many improvements were made including better cuffs, more shell material used on the sleeves and the smaller armpit vents. My only gripe is that they they removed the inside zippered pocket. It's still a 5 star product but I used that pocket all the time on my old jacket and it will be missed.
